How we get retaining walls right
Half of LA is built on a slope, and a retaining wall is a structural element, not a landscape accent. Anything holding back more than four feet of soil - measured from the bottom of the footing - needs an engineered design and a City permit, and even shorter walls need proper drainage or they blow out. We build engineered concrete and CMU block walls with the right footing, rebar, weep holes, and gravel-and-fabric drainage behind them so hydrostatic pressure has somewhere to go.
